Tropical Smoothie Café Recognized by Industry Leaders as a Great Restaurant Franchise to Own

It has been quite a year at Tropical Smoothie Café (TSC). With our double-digit sales growth of late, we are getting noticed in industry publications and by industry insiders. Systemwide sales are up 23.2 percent this year, and the brand’s Average Unit Volume is $734,000* – the highest in the company’s 18-year history. A recent article in QSR magazine listed TSC as a “major player on the national scene” and one of 2015’s Best Franchise Deals.
This exciting growth also drew the attention of fastcasual.com, which reports on the top restaurants, trends, and technologies in the fast casual restaurant space. TSC was among the Top 100 Movers and Shakers listed in 2015. Brands were chosen for multiple criteria, including growth, innovation, and contribution to the industry. Commenting on the accolades from fastcasual.com, CEO Mike Rotondo said, “This past year marked Tropical Smoothie Café’s transition from an emerging fast casual brand to a true industry leader.”
That leadership position was also echoed in a Franchise Times Fast and Serious article published in March 2015 where TSC was recognized as a fast-growing franchise system that also has staying power. TSC currently has over 425 locations open across the United States and is opening one or more Cafés per week. Also noted in the ranking was the fact that out of the 101 franchise deals signed last year, 65 percent of those were from existing franchisees. For Rotondo, this means that “our concept is not a one-night stand, this is long-term growth.”
Franchise Owners opening more Cafés is a clear sign of TSC’s strength and appeal. Another is receiving high marks in Franchise Business Review’s 2014 Franchisee Satisfaction Awards, and being ranked one of the Top 40 Food Franchises for 2014. Additionally, TSC was named one of the Top 200 Franchises by Franchise Business Review for the past two years.
And just this past week, TSC was recognized as #7 in the Nation’s Restaurant News (NRN) 2015 Second 100. According to Editor-in-Chief Sarah Lockyer, this is NRN’s biggest and best look into the future of foodservice. Our sales growth, financing program for our franchisees, menu innovation, responsiveness to franchisees, and training caught the eye for NRN to produce this impressive ranking.
This year, the healthy food franchise plans to exceed to 500 stores nationwide and sign franchise agreements for an additional 150 new locations. The brand currently has franchise opportunities across the U.S. in markets such as Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, Charlotte, Philadelphia, Boston, Portland, and Columbus, Ohio, among others. By 2018, Tropical Smoothie Café plans to have 800 stores open across the U.S.
In order to obtain this growth, TSC is looking for candidates who have business experience, preferably in the restaurant industry; $100,000 in liquid assets and a minimum net worth of $300,000; and an initial investment of between $165,940 and $414,685.
