Navy veteran looks to the horizon as his Tropical Smoothie Cafe businesses grow
May 22, 2017
Rylan Miller is 7,327 miles from his Tropical Smoothie Cafe location but it is never far from his mind. Although he has spent the last six months in Helmand Province in Afghanistan, working as a contractor, he has 2 Cafes open in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. With plans already in the works to open additional locations in the area, his “empire” will eventually include 5 Tropical Smoothie Cafes. And he, his wife, and his team are just getting started.
“We want to grow regionally from our base in the South,” he said.
He and his wife, Jennifer, were brand fans before becoming Tropical Smoothie Franchise Owners. When they were stationed at the Navy base in Virginia Beach, Virginia they would go to their neighborhood Cafe every week. When they began looking for a franchise opportunity for themselves, the brand they loved became even more appealing.
“A lot of the other franchises we considered didn’t have the growth potential we were looking for. They were sold out or didn’t have the territories we wanted. With Tropical Smoothie Cafe we could open as many as we wanted,” said Miller.
Jennifer handles operations and marketing and Miller says that she is the face of the stores, keeping things running smoothly and providing great customer service. Their district manager Chad Hupp and business partner Gus Laben, who he met when they were both in the Navy, help run the Cafes as well.
“Between the four of us we can divide and conquer,” said Miller. Spoken like a true military man.
